Born in Brooklyn, New York, Scala began performing and writing music at the age of 12. Scala's songwriting has insightful lyrics that reveal a refreshing level of social awareness. Driven to make it as a self taught musician, by age 13 Scala had built his own guitar and set his sights on working his way into the New York music scene. His determination from a young age paved the way from him to complete two successful world tours by 2009.

By 17, Scala was an established independent artist, performing at underground jazz and rock clubs across New York and Los Angeles such as CBGB's, Tangier's, Troubadour, The Bitter End, Kenny's Castaways, and Terra Blues. He would later work with artists from Alien Ant Farm, 311, The John Butler Trio, and The Rivalry to release his self titled debut album and his most recent album Autumn Ashes.

In early 2007, Scala embarked on his first world tour across the U.S., Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He worked his way from city to city, captivating fans with his soulful yet explosive performances selling over 10,000 CD's on his first world tour. Despite facing hardships on the road, Scala was determined to do whatever it took to make the tour successful. He played some of the world's best live music venues from The Espy in Melbourne, Australia to The Mint in London, England and even setting a record for the first live performance in the Franz Joseph Glacier on the South Island of New Zealand. Through his persistent hard work and touring, Scala was able to establish a loyal fan base and received international radio play for his hit singles Fallin, Take Me As I Am, Contemplation, and many more . His single Soldier's Cry, off his self titled first album, was featured in the nationwide Wounded Warrior Project, a humanitarian program that aids war veterans and their families. Upon his successful tours, Scala continued to flourish and solidify his place in the music scene, and continues to gain many fans across the world.

The passion Scala has for music also extends to his charity work. He established the Mike Scala Foundation for Youth, an organization that provides aid and educational opportunities for at risk youth across the U.S. and developing countries. Scala has worked with organizations such as UNICEF, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, American Cancer Society, and has founded musician alliances around the world to provide mentoring and music programs for youth in need.

Scala's most recent charity endeavor, Rock the Cause (http://www.rockthecauseNYC.org), is a series of concerts consisting of various New York City artists. These concerts fuse philanthropy with live music to provide aid and inspiration to underprivileged youth in New York City and around the world.
